1745

With this project, I have produced photographs that displayed simplistic views of nature, themed around the formation of plants and trees and their growth on land that was a historical battlefield - the 1745 Battle of Prestonpans. Inspired by the environmental works of photographer Harry Callahan, and further influenced by landscape photographers John Blakemore and Frank Meadow Sutcliffe; this project focused on revealing intimate battlefield scenes as well as a strong sense of atmosphere highlighted by bad and cloudy weather conditions. Through aesthetics, the images were to look like vintage photographs, to pay homage to the conflict I was referencing and square cropping was applied to emphasise simplicity in the perceived compositions and tighten up what was shown on the battlefield.
